Paul Dougherty - State Farm Insurance/NAFIA National Officer

Paul Dougherty is the Past-President of NAIFA and has been in the insurance and financial services field for twenty-eight years representing

State Farm Insurance, the last twenty-one as an Agent in Hyattsville, Maryland.  He is a passionate advocate for the insurance industry in

general, and the role of the agent specifically.

Throughout his career, Paul has actively engaged in training producers, educating clients, as well as advising regulators and legislators about

the value of the products and services designed to help consumers recover from the unexpected.  Paul speaks to audiences and organizations around the country about the key role producers play in the industry and the need to assist clients in preparing for their financial future. 


His insights in the delivery of professional advice to a diverse marketplace has resulted in multiple requests to brief members of Congress and their staffs on key issues and has led to frequent testimony before Maryland House and Senate committees.  He is also the current Chairman of the Retirement Planning Coalition of Maryland.

Rick Hayes - CVP - Advanced Life Sales  New York LIfe

Rick’s first experience with sales was with Success Motivating Institute where he sold goal setting and self-improvement material.

He became a New York Life Agent in July of 1986. Within his first year qualified for Career Council, where he was elected as the Vice President of his Career Council.  He has been awarded the Centurion Award, National Quality Award and was an Executive Council member while an agent.  He was promoted as the Training Manager for the Greater Oregon General Office in January 1991.  He was again promoted to Pacific Coast Life Product Consultant in April 1999.  Rick completed his CLU designation in 1994 and his ChFC designation in 1996.  He earned his Master’s of Science in Financial Services in July 2000.  He was the 1994-1995 President of the Salem Board of Life Underwriters.  He is the 1996 winner of the Tony Konen Memorial Award for Leadership.  He has served as a board member of the Society of Financial Professional.  Rick earned an AEP (Accredited Estate Planning) designation in August 2000.  Rick was promoted in Feb. 2011 to Assistant Vice President Whole Life Specialist in the Pacific agencies. He was promoted to Corporate Vice President and Life Sales officer for the Pacific Zone in 2014, and has supervise the Life Consultant team. He was promoted in January 2018 to Advance Life Sale Officer, where he will be responsible for WL sales in the Pacific and West Central Agencies and work specifically with the top 100 agents in those two zones.  His specialty is working with agents on advanced planning and Business cases.

Rick and his wife Louanne live in Salem, Oregon.  They have two sons, Zachary and Bryant.

Candace Jennings - Candace Jennings Consulting 

With over 25 years of experience in the Private Client insurance market, Candace has expertise in meeting the complex and often unique insurance needs of affluent and emerging wealth clients.  She has a consultative approach that goes beyond a typical insurance process.  By understanding as much as possible about her clients, she can help them to not only understand and address the potential risks to their wealth and lifestyle but also to provide an array of solutions.

Candace built an agency that became a significant part of the Lake Oswego community and was respected for its high-quality delivery of services. Over a short period of time, Candace and her team became experts in the Private Client and Family Office space.  The company was acquired by Woodruff Sawyer in 2011 with the intent to expand those services.  Candace stayed on as Vice President of the Private Client division until October 2014 at which time she left Woodruff Sawyer to spend time with her aging parents and enjoy a brief sabbatical. 

Candace is a long-time resident of Lake Oswego, Oregon.  She attended Lake Oswego High School and graduated from the University of Oregon.  She holds licenses in Property and Casualty, Life and Health as well as Consulting.  She is also a Life Underwriters Training Council Fellowship (LUTCF) and has recently completed the Certified Private Risk Insurance Advisor (CPRIA)) designation.  She is a founding member of the Private Risk Management Association (PRMA). Along with her business activities she enjoys participating in many community activities.  Candace is married to her husband, Gil: they enjoy hiking, running and golf.

R. J.’s interests include a commitment to being a wise and fun husband, performing in a contemporary Christian band, and being active in community, church and international volunteer work. He has worked in Guatemala, Mexico, Myanmar, Cambodia and Russia on service and humanitarian projects. In 2005 he raised over $30k to help Cambodian landmine victims and a school in Phnom Penh. An eight time marathoner, he has raised $35k for Leukemia-Lymphoma research through his running. His life goals include facilitating directly or indirectly $1 billion to charity (he has recently reached the $100M mark), serving overseas in Liberia & India in 2020 (his “2020 Vision”) and travels to Bhutan, Iguaçu Falls, Machu Picchu, Tibet, India and the Amazon. He recently accomplished a long time dream of doing a tail hook landing and catapult take off from the aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln.

R. J. is blessed to be married to his beautiful wife, Vymean, a survivor of the killing fields of Cambodia, and one equally committed to making the world a better place.
